Coach Gillom is a loved and respected coach and person in the Xavier community. She has won gold medals in the Olympics as a basketball player and coach, as well as played for various professional WNBA teams. Below is a quick interview with the athlete herself.

Q: Tell us a little about yourself.

A: I come from a family of ten children. I have 51 nieces and nephews. I love singing and watching movies. I love spending time with my two dogs, Tessa and Bianca.

Q: What is your favorite part about coaching basketball at Xavier?

A: I love coaching basketball at Xavier because not only is there wonderful talent here, I have such a supportive staff and administration. I love the competitive spirit here at Xavier.

Q: You’ve coached for high-profile teams like the Phoenix Mercury and Team USA, how is coaching at Xavier different?

A: The difference is that you have to teach more. The players are not quite as developed, so they require more attention. I love to see the development of skills at both levels.

Q: Going to the Olympics is every athlete’s dream, how does it feel to have not only participated/coached Team USA basketball, but also won gold medals?

A: It always feels great to be the best at any level, but when it is at the level of a world stage, it means you are truly one of the best. It was truly an honor to represent my country during the Olympics.

Q: What’s next for you?

A: I always wanted to be a teacher before I started my professional basketball career. Right now, I’m focused on becoming the best teacher I can be and making an impact on the students here.
