Gator basketball and soccer in a great place going into the postseason

The winter sports season is halfway through and Xavier’s basketball and soccer teams are in a great position. Basketball is having their best season in Xavier history, and soccer is on track on win state for the second year in a row.

Currently, basketball is ranked fifth in the 6A conference, with 16 teams guaranteed to make the playoffs. Basketball is also ranked ninth in the state. The team has many strong players, including senior power forward, Montana Oltrogge, who scores an average of 13.3 points per game. After graduating, Oltrogge is headed to division 1 school, Idaho State University. Another strong player, junior point guard Leilani McIntosh, adds a lot of depth to the team scoring an average of 11 points per game and 4.5 steals per game. Senior power forward, Mary Long, said, “I’m really excited because this is the first year in a long time we’ve actually been quoted for the state championship.”

Soccer, currently ranked second in the 6A conference, is ready to win another state championship. The team is packed with talented juniors and seniors, with four girls already committed to play soccer at division 1 NCAA programs. The team has scored 38 goals so far this season, with two girls already in the double digits – senior Abby Hubbard (11) and junior Kyla Ferry (17).
