The memories and experiences I have been blessed with the past four years here at Xavier are moments that will last me a lifetime. Not only has Xavier challenged me academically, it has also taught me to go outside of my comfort zone while taking risks. For example, trying out for Mary Poppins two weeks into my freshman year was a very intimidating experience, but entering into the Xavier theater community was the best decision I ever made. Performing in the fall and spring musicals all four years allowed me to meet my best friends while also meeting an incredible group of diverse and talented students. Then, when I saw my name on the Little Mermaid cast list next to the role of Ursula, I was initially terrified to play a role so over-the-top and unique from every other role I have portrayed. Little did I know, that show would end up being the most enjoyable musical I would ever do, and the best experience here at Xavier. Signing up for XPress was another risk that forced me outside of my comfort zone but also added such value and passion to my school days.

XPress became a platform for me to use my voice to describe social challenges here at Xavier and promote new ideas to create a more friendly environment at school. Whether it be writing about the round tables in Founders Hall or recording and interviewing Dean Macrina’s opinions on bullying at Xavier, XPress has allowed me to find the truth in each story to share with the larger community. Writing about social struggles at Xavier also introduced me to a fellow senior, Bridget Kelly, who read my articles on bullying and also felt passionate about challenging the social norm here at Xavier and started the Kindness Project to promote intentional kindness around Xavier. I will miss Xavier very much after I leave but I am forever thankful for the memories and the long lasting friends.
