The tradition of senior treats

Xavier College Prep seniors reveled in their seniority last week due to the first installment of senior treats. Students of all grades looked upon the grand display of popsicles and candy-filled jars with admiration.

Ashlyn Bradshaw, sophomore, was one of many students that saw a wave of seniors walking away from the treats table with delicious-looking popsicles. Bradshaw said, “as an underclassman, the idea of my class getting senior treats in two years is really exciting! I feel like this tradition is integral to seniors and their attitude throughout the year. They’re almost done with high school, and they’re excited for college, but senior treats reminds them of how hard they’ve worked the past four years to get to where they are now.”

Senior Michaela Wuycheck said, “By the time we get to this year, we have watched multiple classes excitedly rush to the treat tables… Receiving senior treats makes a huge impact on us, as we are about to become incredibly independent. I intend to make the most of each day, and senior treats only adds to that!”

Even Graduates of Xavier still remember their senior treat experience and regard it as a right of passage for all students. Carly Sgambati, recent alumna for the class of 2015, shared, “I absolutely loved senior treats! It always made me feel empowered when walking away with something from the treat table because I was like ‘Yeah, that’s right! This cookie is mine because I’m a senior.’”

Anne Wuycheck, class of 1988 alumna and mother to Xavier senior Michaela and freshman Murphy, helped distribute the many flavors of popsicles at the first senior treats event. Wuycheck said, “I think senior year is a special time to recognize this fabulous group of young ladies and how far they have made it. The women that I’m blessed to serve with on the committee are so thoughtful and very creative, so I’m certain the girls will enjoy what’s in store… We love our seniors!”

To sum up the widespread opinion of senior treats, senior Ksenia Balderrama commented that she “likes the seniors-only tradition because it’s a present every time that says ‘we finally made it!’”
