The infamous annual dance for new ninth graders from both Xavier and Brophy was a spectacular event meant for incoming freshmen to mingle and mix together.
The Frosh Mixer, a Xavier and Brophy tradition, occurred this year on Friday, August 16. Typically, the student advisors for the freshman -the Brophy student council, Xavier senior student council and Xavier Executive Board- oversee and organize the Frosh Mixer.
Senior student council treasurer Molly Winter ‘25 stated, “Being a moderator for the freshman was a fun experience to be a part of and I am very glad I could come back as a senior.”
The dance is also typically chaperoned by teachers and students in the Xavier and Brophy Executive Boards and senior student councils.
The perspective of the dance partially varies from person to person. Often, freshmen know girls and boys from middle schools, others come from schools not knowing many people and some are even coming in from out of state.
This year, with more students admitted to both Xavier and Brophy, the dance was the biggest one in a while. The theme of the dance was Hawaiian. Brophy provided food for students, had music in the mosh pit and had outside areas to walk around and mingle with others.
Over the years, the Frosh Mixer has gone through many different changes and improvements.
In previous years, students had the aquatic center open to swim and dive, they had an inflatable movie screen and food trucks available.
This is the first social event between the Xavier and Brophy freshmen. It is the first of many Xavier and Brophy events throughout the year and students’ high school experiences.
“Even though this year there were more freshmen from both schools, it was still the same in the sense of the mosh pit, vendors and meeting new Brophy boys for the freshman classes,” Winter said.
Freshman Luvlee Crump ‘28 said, “The mixer was a fun experience that I will never forget.”
Similarly, Melissa Roberts ‘28 stated, “Mixing with the Brophy boys was fun and it would be cool to see more similar dances like this in the future.” The other dances thrown by Brophy include the Back-to-School dance, Hoopcoming, and prom for juniors and seniors.
The frosh mixer is the only single-grade event between Brophy and Xavier. It is an unforgettable experience for students.
Overall, everyone who went to this year’s Frosh Mixer had the time of their lives. This night created memories to last a lifetime and while the dance goes through changes, it will always be essential to the Xavier experience.
