Students with artistic talents and local artists with pieces to share have the opportunity to present their projects to the Xavier community in the Stark Gallery.
This is a fun and important opportunity for artists who want to showcase their pieces, and for audiences who want to see them.
The Stark Gallery, located outside of the Performing Arts Center, is a place where those who are interested in art can come to walk through various exhibits featuring different projects.
One artist being featured in the Stark Gallery is Diane Sanborn who will be presenting her art in December.
Sanborn is known for her color combinations and visual aids within her artworks. She creates her work with the hope that her audiences will respond and relate to them in good ways. Her artwork moves in and out of themes and colors but stays true to her abstract visualizations.
She has been nominated for various awards, and even won a residency at the Torpedo Factory Art Center located in Alexandria, Virginia.
Her upcoming exhibit will feature 24 different paintings. Sanborn expressed that they are all pieces created within the last three years.
According to Sanborn, “They are each separate visual statements, abstract and highly intuitive.” She believes that audience interpretation is extremely important as well.
“Visitors to the exhibit will gain an appreciation of non-representational art,” she added.
Many students on campus also enjoy visiting the Stark Gallery to see the new paintings and sculptures that are featured.
Junior Kalani Hernandez stated, “The Stark Gallery induces my creative thinking, and the peaceful environment gives me new inspiration every day.” She expressed that she looks forward to seeing Sanborn’s paintings.
Jaina Kaiser also shared how much she loves the gallery. “I love being able to stop in at Stark Gallery and see all of the amazing talent that Xavier has to offer to me.”
Many students can go to visit the gallery to see the inspiring art and gain new insight about what the artists have to offer in their works. Sanborn’s work will be featured on December 4, from 9 a.m. until noon.

Well written, and very informative. I enjoyed reading the detailed information on the artist’s background, technique and materials used when creating her work. I also love how you included critic responses…
Note: This is the first time that I have had the opportunities to read your work as a future journalist. You have the talent, so continue your quest in this arena.
