Tech Trek Allows Xavier and Brophy Students to Explore Technology
On Oct. 21, twenty-four Xavier and Brophy students had a unique opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at local tech companies during the first “Tech Trek.”
Coordinated by XCP and BCP parent, Tishin Donkersley, the Tech Trek was a day tour of several technology companies in the Valley that allowed students to explore various careers in the technological field.
These companies included WebPT, a website that allows for physical therapists to store information all in one place, GoDaddy, a company that guides in reserving Internet domains and in making websites and Phoenix Analysis and Design Technologies (PADT), known for technological developments like 3D printing.
Representatives from each company discussed and guided the students, showing them what working in the technology industry would entail.
Junior Skylar Smith, a participant on the trip, said, “I think that an understanding of the tech world is great knowledge to have, because it’s so prevalent in today’s society.”
She also added that she would highly recommend the trip for someone who “may be interested in technology as a career or major, or someone who is just interested in a ‘behind-the-scenes’ look into the tech business.”
The Xavier students that went on the trip were Amelia Connelley, Maeneka Grewal, Katherine Hann, April Lopez, Molly Luther, Megan McElenney, Andy Muniz, Julia Nguyen, Lilly Pace, Skylar Smith and Nika Volfson.
The Brophy students were Casey Blim, Andrew Brown, Jack Cody, Abel Cortez, Ryan Knappenberger, John Manganiello, Trevor McNamara, James Owen Murphy, Nico Pacioni, Dale Ramey, Tony Rodriguez and Geovanni Salgado.
It is hoped that the Tech Trek will be held twice a year in the future.
