I have been a part of XPress since my freshman year where I started as a club photographer. After that, I worked my way up to staff writer my sophomore year, then sports editor junior year, and finally editor-in-chief, a position that I had worked for since I was introduced to journalism class. Throughout these four years, I can say without a doubt that I saw XPress rise and become a staple of news for both the student body and the outside community. It may be my bias speaking but XPress has been one of the best if not the best part of my Xavier experience.
It is in that newsroom that I found a mentor in Mr. Mos. To you, Mr. Mos, I say thank you for always believing in me and entrusting XPress to me this year. I wouldn’t be the person I am without your encouragement to challenge myself out of my comfort zone.
In XPress, I also met my amazing staff and the best managing editor, aka my XPress family. To you, I say my vision for this year wouldn’t have come to life without you. It was your passion and dedication from pitching stories to taking on extra articles that made every moment worth it. Thank you for your unwavering support, the bonds, the memories of you watching me decide on articles, and above all letting me be your leader. XPress would not have come so far without every single one of you.
To the editor-in-chief of the 2024-2025 school year, Charley Fisher, my advice to you is to take this role with honor and embrace it. Foster an inclusive community where everyone’s voice is heard and support every staff member’s growth. Lastly, take care of the staff. It is the heart and soul of our beloved publication. I am confident that you will continue taking XPress to new heights.
To XPress, thank you for everything. It was an honor serving as this year’s editor-in-chief.
This is Editor-in-chief MJ Martinez signing off.
P.S. Good journalism and good fun!
