Xavier has incorporated a new program for students on campus. It is a partnership with Creighton University and is a college – matching test titled TrueMotivate. It is open to both sophomores and juniors this year who had the opportunity to recently take this test.
According to Brittany Ecker, former interim principal at Xavier, it is a simple process. During their English classes, sophomores are asked to write about their best experiences that they’ve had in their lifetimes; Examples included sports achievements, birthdays and spending time with friends and family.
TrueMotivate uses AI to take what one likes and then delivers a personality assessment based upon the writing style. It uses those results to show the possible careers that it thinks the student would be interested in. Lastly, it presents colleges that would match those careers.
As juniors, the test furthers the results from sophomore year. Representatives from Creighton then help students find specific programs based on their selection of college options.
“This is more than just a personality test; it’s deeper than that. It’s the highlight of your life. This program translates that over to colleges and careers that will allow students to relive that highlight over and over again,” Ecker stated.
She thinks this program is very valuable. The Xavier community wants its students to be successful after they graduate and to be happy in their college years, and the years after.
Ecker also shared that this program is especially important to Xavier because Creighton is also a Catholic university. Being able to infuse faith into this process is a great addition.
While AI is on an upward trend in the world today, Ecker wanted to be able to use it for something that could help students in their daily lives.
Sophomore Jai Turner ‘27 had the opportunity to participate in the TrueMotivate test. “It was an amazing program and helped me think deeper about the college process. I enjoyed learning about potential colleges and careers that would be the right fit for me.”
She also shared that she liked how it helped to ease the stressful aspect of wondering which colleges might be the right match for her in the future.
Junior Betty Hailu ‘26 touched on how having counselors there helped her out as they explained different parts of how applying for colleges works.
“It is nice knowing that my school has programs like this that help juniors prepare for college since the process is already stressful enough,” Hailu said. She is glad that she had the opportunity to see new career options and find colleges that really interest her.
Hailu also shared that TrueMotivate helped her out with choosing and applying for colleges, and she will continue to use her test results in the future.
Last year was the first year that sophomores were able to take the test. This year was the launch year for juniors to participate. Both Turner and Hailu agreed that the test helped ease anxieties and stress that come along with the college process.
