The new Apple iPhone X has many new features, including live “animojis.”

The release of the newest iPhone generation, the iPhone X, came with a new wave of emojis. The new selection has twelve “animojis,” including a unicorn, panda, rooster and the iconic poop emoji.

After selecting an emoji, someone can record him or herself speaking while the camera tracks their face. When sending an animoji, it reads the recorded words out loud. This is made possible through the new facial recognition software exclusive to the iPhone X. The software, which is able to record more than 50 facial muscle movements, is also used to unlock the phone.

Even though these animojis are cutting edge, this feature alone is not persuading people to buy it. The iPhone X, priced at $999 and upwards, is more expensive than any other before it. Many people aren’t willing to pay the price for the new features.

Freshman Ella Petrine, said that these emojis, which are “very weird and childish,” are not enough to persuade her to buy the new iPhone over concerns of personal security.

“The facial recognition freaks me out,” Petrine said. “I’m fine with how the emojis are now.”

Others are enjoying the new features. Freshman Raina Hayes said, “The new emojis are super cool and so fun.”
