Xavier’s spring dance shows
According to the Xavier website, the Xavier Dance Department offers a “variety of classes focusing on educating dancers in ballet, modern, and jazz technique, history, improvisation, and choreography.” A tradition within the Dance Department is that each class performs a show in the spring. These shows display the hard work that the dancers, choreographers and teachers put in each day. The spring shows are April 12, 17 and 19.
The April 12 show is the Frosh Dance Concert and only consists of the freshman dance classes. April 17 is the intermediate and advanced concert. Lastly, the April 19 show is the Performance Dance and Advanced Dance Concert. All performances begin at 7 p.m., (except April 19, beginning at 6:30 p.m.) and admission is $5.00. Tickets can be purchased at the Jackson Box Office in Xavier’s Virginia G. Piper Performing Arts Center.
The show on April 19, is a very special one because it includes senior solos. These are dances that the seniors in Performance Dance choreographed throughout the year. Senior Grace McClain said, “I have enjoyed this year more than the other years I have been in the Xavier dance apartment. As a performance dancer, I loved choreographing my senior solo and can’t wait to perform it at the spring show.”
Each show consists of student choreographed pieces, guest artists choreography and pieces created by Ms. Mary Anne Herding and Mrs. Kelly Scovel. Come support the Xavier and Brophy dancers during their spring performances.
