The Arizona State Fair returns
Since fall is in the air (though there aren’t many multi-colored leaves to show for it), it is time for the annual Arizona State Fair, a two-month long event drawing people of all ages from across the Valley to the site of good, old-fashioned fun. From October 16 to November 8, the Arizona State Fairgrounds will be open Wednesday through Sunday for hours of rides, concerts, and attractions.
New for the 2015 season are several dynamic shows to enjoy. One is the juggling, acrobatic duo called Something Ridiculous, a series of acts by two friends who incorporate fire, unicycles and tall heights into a thrilling performance for all audiences. Also featured is the Welde’s Big Bear Show that sheds light upon bear conservation and habitat preservation. Want to satisfy your sweet tooth? Celebrity performances are always a fair staple, and this year Phoenicians will be able to see Austin Mahone, Flo Rida, Jason Derulo and even Rick Springfield. Bret Michaels and Sheryl Crow will also be appearing on stage this fall. Be sure to check the Arizona State Fair website, which has a detailed list of when and where the artists will be performing.
Aside from new attractions, there are still the long-standing favorites that remain a part of everyone’s personal experience. “I love the Zipper!” said sophomore Ashlyn Bradshaw. “It doesn’t have any seat belts and you are in a cage getting flipped around in all different directions…you never know what’s going to happen next.”
Junior Bella Johnson’s favorite is the Skyflyer. She said, “I was able to see an aerial view of Phoenix. That was definitely the best part of the ride.” Other popular rides to look out for include Alien Abduction, The Flying Dutchman and Insanity.
Whether you are a thrill seeker, music junkie or fair aficionado, the 2015 Arizona State Fair is waiting for you to discover this October and November.
