This year, Xavier softball and beach volleyball have a notable amount of freshwomen on teams this season: softball has 8 on varsity and beach volleyball has 10 on JV.
Angie Falls, Brekyn Burns-Jones, Joie Ramos, Noe Romo, Molly Frazier, McKenna Hackett, Makenzie Latvaaho and Sariah McNabb are all freshmen who made it onto the varsity softball team for the 2024 season.
All eight have been playing softball since they were young and are on club teams as well as the Xavier team.
“All of us knew each other because we played against each other in club softball, so it was nice to have support,” Ramos said.
All agreed that the seniors were the best part about being on varsity. “All the upperclassmen were so sweet to all of us and so welcoming,” Romo added.
All commented about how the seniors helped outside of the sport as well. They would drive them to AJs and give advice.
The young softballers also expressed their appreciation for their coaches Brad Downes, Thomas Sahhar and Deryk Sexton.
Not only did varsity softball have a big influx of freshwomen players, but beach volleyball did as well.
The following are freshwomen who made it onto the 2024 JV beach volleyball team: Chloe Harwell, London Johnson, Sophia London, Emma Recuber, Madi Araujo, Sophia Owens, Fallon Fig, Raine Boles, Grace Graf and Santana Vasquez.
All of these girls worked hard this season, and they finished with a 7-1-1 record.
The team was strong and they were all so close and had an amazing bond.
“My favorite thing about Xavier beach volleyball is the community. The team made me feel so welcomed and I have made some amazing bonds with these girls. Having the older girls to look up to pushes me to play my best every day,” remarked Emma Recuber.
Beach volleyball has always been a huge part of all of their lives. They work with Xavier’s team but also with clubs outside of Xavier.
They expressed gratitude to the team and coaches. They are excited to come back next year and play on varsity.
