Across the nation, Catholic schools are celebrating Catholic Schools Week. This year, Catholic Schools Week was celebrated from January 26 to February 1.
Catholics celebrated their parishes on Sunday; their communities on Monday; students on Tuesday; the nation on Wednesday; vocation on Thursday; faculty, staff and volunteers on Friday; and families on Saturday.
At Xavier, Monday was Merch Monday, “Mathletes” versus “Athletes” was Tuesday, “Country” versus “Country Club” was Wednesday, “Crazy Hair and Tie-dye” was Thursday and “Beach Day” was Friday.
Along with these themes, there were fun activities at lunchtimes that included both staff and students. There was a lip-sync battle, spelling bee and a seniors versus teachers dodgeball game.
A Mass was held at Saint Simon and Jude Cathedral on Thursday with the bishop. Along with a rally held at the state capital, to thank congress for fighting for Catholic school rights, Principal Brittany Ecker with Executive Board members and Gatorline went to celebrate Catholic Schools Week.
Executive Board president Michal Cagungun ‘25 said, “My favorite thing at the rally was getting to see kids from other Catholic schools performing their amazing musical talents.”
“I think Catholic Schools Week is a great opportunity to acknowledge not only our school but all of the Catholic schools in the United States,” added Ecker.
