On May 3, Xavier’s women’s under-16 coxed quad crew team surged to victory, capturing gold. With its sights now set on an even bigger stage, this team will be heading to Sarasota, Florida, to compete at nationals on June 12.
The team is made up of freshwomen Ava Yparraguirre, Lauren Aldrete, Emma Perry, Madison Minnitti and Olivia Moshiri.
Their commitment and excellence will serve them well at nationals and the rest of their crew careers at Xavier.
“They’re impressive kids. They go hard and are so fun to watch,” said Geoff Stricklin, head coach.
This is the first time in 12 years that Xavier has made it to nationals. The girls have bonded and grown together as a team over the past year. “We all have to communicate to keep the boat moving,” Aldrete said.
“I feel like the only thing that keeps me going is when I hear our team cheering for us toward the end,” Moshiri added. Teamwork, along with their supporters, is what motivates them the most.
The girls are heading to nationals this June with one goal: bringing home a championship. As freshwomen they’re ready to prove they have what it takes, now and in the years to come.
