It’s a workout, it’s a sport, it’s kickboxing
As everyone knows, life can get a little overwhelming and stressful at times. Many people have no idea how exactly to release this stress, and let it just build up over time. It’s exhausting to carry stress around all the time while still being expected to be a pro at life. We have all been there. Next time you’re all twisted and tangled up in stress, try kickboxing to release some tension.
There are many places to kick box, either on your own or in a group class. In Tempe, Ariz., Jabz Boxing Fitness for Women is a facility that runs a “45 minute circuit workout that combines boxing exercises with cardio, strength training, plyometrics and numerous other functional exercises used to produce maximum results for your
body,” according to their website. There is an orientation session for beginning kick boxers, as well as beginning, intermediate and advanced classes.
Junior Molly Dunn is a regular attendee at Jabz. “I had no previous experience with anything related to kickboxing before I started. The gym was very welcoming, and taught the basics and supported my improvement,” said Dunn.
According to healthfitnessrevolution.com, kickboxing is said to help with stress relief, better circulation throughout the body, increased flexibility and improved balance among other benefits.
“Exercise in general is a great way to accomplish all of these things. But there’s just something about throwing punches and kicks that really does the trick for me,” said Dunn.
As well as being an effective workout, kickboxing also provides self-defense techniques in any case of danger. Being able to throw a few punches and maneuver out of danger is a critical ability to have.
“It was the perfect match for me since I no longer play a sport. It’s much more fun and motivating to go to kickboxing than the gym,” said Dunn. “You make your own schedule and can go as many times a week as you want, and each session is only an hour. It’s perfect for a busy Xavier girl like me.”
