High school is a time of learning about an individual’s true passions and interests as one evolves into a more versed student and prepares for college. Freshman Kate Shein has found her passion in theater, singing and songwriting. She not only has been in many productions, but also publishes her own original songs on SoundCloud. Q: What do you do in your spare time?

A: I write songs, do musical theater, bake and hang out with my friends.

Q: What caused you to be interested in singing and songwriting?

A: I have always done musical theater and have always loved to sing. As I explored the world of singing, I branched out into songwriting.

Q: How do you find inspiration for your work?

A: I find my inspiration through experiences. Particular people also tend to inspire me to write certain songs.

Q: What are your goals for the future in regard to music or hobbies?

A: I really hope to write and record an album’s worth of songs.

Q: Where do you record your work?

A: I use GarageBand and headphones in a room in my house that doesn’t have lingering echoes to help with the recording and clarity of the sound.

Q: What is your favorite song you have written?

A:  My favorite song is “Promise Me” because that was my very first song that I felt so proud to share.
