Dr. Strange takes the big screen
Marvel’s most recent film “Doctor Strange” expands the Marvel cinematic universe by introducing us to another element that has not yet been seen. The audience in this film is shown more of the magical universe than what was shown in “Avengers: Age of Ultron” with the Scarlet Witch. This movie is an introduction to the character of Doctor Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and the vast world that he encounters.
Doctor Strange is one of the world’s best Neurosurgeons, which comes with a massive ego and arrogance along with wealth and fame. The doctor suffers a traumatic crash, ending his career as a surgeon. Strange, now desperate to find a solution to fix his hands, travels to Nepal to seek out a mysterious order. What he found was the Ancient One, played by Tilda Swinton, who teachest him that in order to seek what he wants he must forget all of what he knows of science and expand his mind into the vast universe of the unknown.
Strange is thrown into a world that has captured his interest. The more he learns about the unknown, the more questions he has about the order and who the Ancient one really is.
The strong elements of the movie give it a unique, setting it apart from the other Marvel movies. The comedy within the movie was not excessive, but well placed within the plot.
Benedict Cumberbatch’s performance as Doctor Stephen Strange did an accurate portrayal of the character. He was able to capture Strange’s arrogance, sarcasm and wit. The mixture of effects helped to enhance the feeling of the different dimensions within the film.
Some of the weaker elements in the film were some of the visual effects. The film did make use of the visual effects that Inception used, for example the building turning. But, during the fight scenes, this effect became distracting due to the background and the characters constantly moving.
Overall, the movie Doctor Strange is a good time. It is filled with comedy and action that keeps the viewers attention. There wasn’t a part of the movie that felt slow. The movie kept a good pace, keeping the viewers interested in what was happening on screen.
