Book to Movie Adaptations

The new year is upon us, and with it comes new exciting adventures. It’s universally known to all, that the weekends are the best days of the week for adventures. However, if you are at loss for activities to embark on with your closest friends why not enjoy a fun movie or two. The Year 2020 is coming in swinging with many book to movie adaptations from genres like Young Adult to Fantasy including some adaptations of novels that you may remember reading. Here are the top five, most exciting book to movie adaptions for the year 2020, handpicked for the students of Xavier.  So grab some popcorn because these five movies will be sure to spark some nostalgia.

 

Doolittle:

Based on the beloved children’s story The Story of Doctor Dolittle, written by Hugh Lofting, hits the big screen starring Robert Downey Jr. as Dr. Doolittle himself. Dr. Doolittle discovers he has the magical ability to speak to animals! The story follows him on his adventures with his animals. Some of these adventures include the group traveling to Africa to cure a monkey epidemic. Doolittle comes out on January 17, 2020.

The Secret Garden:

Frances Hodgson Burnette’s novel, The Secret Garden, comes to life as Kate Maberly portrays the main female protagonist, Mary Lennox. The story begins with Mary Lennox who is sent to live among her uncle’s supervision. Mary discovers that her uncle possesses a secret garden that very few know about. She uncovers mysteries while simultaneously creating friends along the way. You can see this adaptation in theatres on April 10, 2020.

P.S. I Still Love You: 

Jenny Han’s To All the Boys I Loved Before gains a much-anticipated sequel in the adaptation of her novel P.S. I Still Love You. With everyone falling in love with the first Netflix Original, it’s no surprise the cast would come back once more for another movie. Within the first movie, Laura Jean Covey, portrayed by actress Lana Condor, is forced to come face to face with her childhood crushes when her little sister sends out all of Laura’s old love letters. In the sequel, Laura Jean finds herself having to choose between her boyfriend Peter or her childhood crush John. This romantic comedy returns to Netflix on February 12, 2020.

Another sequel that is hitting the big screen on April 3, 2020, is Peter Rabbit 2. This live-action movie for young adults tells the story of a rabbit named Peter. This movie follows Peter as he shakes the mischievous side of his personality. This movie is sure to bring laughs to everyone as Peter embarks on some crazy adventures.

Artemis Fowl: 

This young adult fantasy movie is based on the series written by Eoin Colfer. The story follows a young, mischievous twelve-year-old boy named Artemis Fowl, who comes from a cold-hearted family. Young Artemis, with selfless intentions, captures a fairy to heal his mother from a deadly illness. Turns out Artemis has actually kidnapped the fairy for a good sum of gold. This exciting movie comes to cinemas on May 29, 2020.
