On February 12, Kim Pfaff, Rhonda Golden, Marisela Morales and Jessica Contreras Perez decorated the Getz-Family Courtyard with Valentine’s Day decorations.
Every year there is a new theme for the decorations. This year’s theme is “Love is a gift.”
“Each year they are so unique [the decorations]. It is so fun watching everyone taking photos,” Sister Joan Fitzgerald said.
Xavier has been decorating the campus with Valentine’s decorations since 2017. Staff members decorate the campus the day before Valentine’s Day. Due to Ash Wednesday this year, Xavier celebrated Valentine’s Day on February 13. The decorations stayed up until the end of the day on February 14.
The staff started decorating on February 12 at 1:30 p.m. and finished near 7. However, the decoration process started weeks ago with the decorating of the boxes ahead of time. “We all bring our own creativity,” said Golden.
At the end of the day on Valentine’s Day, students are allowed to take home decorations.
“It is a celebration of friendship and I hope that is what we build here as a Xavier community,” Fitzgerald said.
Being at an all-girls school makes Valentine’s Day even more unique. “The girls love each other in their friend groups,” Golden said.
