Lights, Camera, Curtain!
Every year, Xavier’s theater department chooses two productions to put on for the public. For the fall production a play is chosen, and in the spring a musical.
This year’s fall play is “Alice in Wonderland,” and the upcoming musical will be “Hadestown.”
One of the unique things about the play this year is the cast number. There are only 20 total cast members in the play, showcasing just how hard some members may have to work.
“‘Alice in Wonderland’ was chosen because it has a female lead, and there is flexibility in the casting. I could make any of the characters girls or guys if I needed to,” director Sarah White said.
White is excited to highlight the numerous, talented Xavier girls in the play, as it has a comedic approach, further pushing actors out of comfort zones.
Senior Stella Chamoff was cast in the lead role of Alice.
“My favorite part about being in ‘Alice in Wonderland’ is the chaos of the show. The crazy and curious scenes lead to super fun and creative rehearsals that leave everyone laughing,” Chamoff said.
She gave a small sneak peek, sharing that the “Mad Hatter Tea Party” scene was one of her favorites. She wants all Gators to know that it is a really fun, exciting play that no one should miss out on seeing.
The White Rabbit, played by senior Macy Bonnett, says that the environment is very positive. “You’re surrounded by some of your closest friends and there is no judgment. Everyone is free to be themselves without any kind of criticism,” Bonnet added.
Bonnett also wanted readers to know that all of the characters are lovable, fun to watch and the show provides lots of entertainment through colors, lights and effects.
Senior Delaney Buckel plays the role of the Duchess’s Cook. Her favorite part about being in the play is hanging out with friends and the rehearsals.
“Rehearsing for the play is the highlight of my week because I love to be around such amazing people,” Buckel said.
The show members want readers and future audience members to prepare to be wowed by the design and production of the play.
Opening night for “Alice and Wonderland” is October 2, and it will also be performed on the 3rd and the 5th.
