Xavier is more than thrilled to welcome the freshwoman class of 2029, a widespread group of students excelling in extracurricular activities beyond the classroom.
Freshwoman involvement is crucial when it comes to success outside the classroom.
Through involvement, students are able to acquire skills, such as discipline and leadership. What does this exactly look like for Xavier’s incoming class?
For Tenley Laizure ’29 she finds herself getting involved through dance and pom.
Along her journey she learns that progress doesn’t always happen overnight, but through consistency progress will show itself.
“Don’t give up when things feel difficult. To get to where you want to be you must be consistent, keeping a positive mindset and reminding yourself you are capable of doing whatever you want to do. These words are very helpful,” Laizure says in regards to others wanting to get involved.
Jasmine Willis ’29 finds her lessons on the cheer mat. She explains how All Star Cheer taught her the importance of teamwork and trust.
“All Star Cheer is a team sport, so the only way something is going to work is if everyone works together,” Willis says.
In addition to athletics, students are also finding themselves getting involved through service. Service is highly encouraged amongst Xavier Students, as it gives them hands-on experiences of how it is helping others.
Savannah Moore ’29 spends her afternoons at Wright Gymnastics Center helping younger groups of girls with essential skills to become better gymnasts.
“I hope to eventually get a position here when I’m 16 in order to continue to help others grow in what they enjoy doing most,” Moore said.
Moore’s role not only benefits others, but gives her a sense of leadership in preparing for her future.
Involvement can be essential as students venture into their high school experiences. Showing students the importance of involvement within their communities but also the lessons received through serving others is vital.
Involvement can be used as a chance to grow beyond academics and to explore the many things that one is capable of doing.
