Faculty member with a golden past
Jennifer Gillom is recognized as a two time Olympic gold medalist.
Physical Education teacher, Ms. Jennifer Gillom, was celebrated last Friday for her achievements in the Olympics. She won her first Gold Medal on the US women’s basketball team in the 1988 Seoul Summer Olympics. Her next Gold Medal was achieved as an assistant coach to the team during the London Summer Olympics. Gillom is one of four female athletes to win Gold Medals as both athlete and coach. Her hard work and determination as a student athlete at the University of Mississippi, player for the Phoenix Mercury WNBA teams, as well as a head coach for the WNBA’s L.A. Sparks and the Minnesota Links, and an assistant coach for the Washington Mystics and Connecticut Sun led to her successful basketball career. She is also a member of the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame. The Xavier community has known Gillom since 2004 when she started as the basketball coach. She is now a teacher in the Physical Education department.
