After nearly 50 years of service, Sister Lynn Winsor has decided to step down as athletic director for Xavier College Preparatory.
“The responsibilities of an athletic director are pretty vast. It can be scheduling games, going to athletic director meetings, going to conferences, making sure all your coaches have complied with all the rules and regulations of the diocese, of the AIA, making sure all the athletes do the same thing. And even if during a game, a toilet breaks, you’re responsible,” Winsor said.
Winsor has led XCP’s athletic department to 161 state championships, was named National High School Athletic Director of the Year multiple times, inducted into the NFHS Hall of Fame and was even named the AIA’s Golf Coach of the Decade.
There’s no doubt her successor has big shoes to fill.
Windsor has named Tui Selvaratnam as her successor. Selvaratnam has coached golf with Winsor for over 20 years.
“She just knows athletics back and forth. She’s worked with me in all the areas of athletics, scheduling, working with coaches, hiring coaches, working with student-athletes, planning schedules, working with the other ADs,” said Winsor.
Aside from Selvaratnam’s vast knowledge of athletics, Winsor chose her to step up as athletic director because of her unmatched love for Xavier.
“She’s really good at what she does, and she truly loves Xavier. I mean, she’s worked here 20 years,” Winsor added.
As new athletic director, Selvaratnam is committed to continuing Xavier’s tradition of excellence in both athletics and academics.
But for her, excellence is not just about winning trophies, but about ensuring Xavier athletics remains a supportive and thriving community.
“I am a firm believer that it’s about how you do it, and not about the wins and losses. Making sure that all the students and the coaches have a great experience, and learn from sports because we are education-based athletics,” Selvaratnam said.
Ellie von Kolen ‘26, a senior on the golf team, could not be more excited for her coach.
“She works really hard, and she deserves the job. She’s going to do great,” von Kolen said.
Looking forward, Selvartnam’s major goal is to encourage school spirit within the community.
To achieve this, she is introducing youth nights to engage with potential students and raffles for gift cards that reward those who attend five or more games.
“Hopefully, after they see our teams doing so well, they come and realize that being part of the Xavier community is amazing,” Selvaratnam said.
As Xavier turns the page to this new chapter, the community will see Coach Tui’s vision for the future. With her deep commitment to the school, her passion for athletics, and her focus on building a supportive community, Xavier athletics pivots to thrive for years to come.
